// 01 — How it works

One canvas for every part of the site

Everything you design is a document — a page, the header, the footer, a sidebar, a mega menu or a template for every post. You build it on the real page and publish it as finished HTML.

Design on the real page

The canvas is your page as the site serves it, with your theme around it. What you see is what gets published.

Publish once

Publish “fires” the design into finished HTML and one stylesheet. Visitors never download the editor.

Draft until you say so

Changes autosave as a draft every 15 seconds. The live page only changes when you press Publish (Ctrl/⌘+S).

Up and running in four steps

  1. Install

    Plugins → Add New, search “Marfilo”, install and activate.

  2. Open the builder

    Marfilo → Builder, or “Edit with Marfilo” on any page.

  3. Design

    Start from a template or an empty section and drag modules in.

  4. Publish

    Check tablet and mobile, then press Publish.

Everything within reach

A top bar for the document, a dock of page tools on the right, and the canvas in between.

// 03 — Build a page

Sections, rows, columns, modules

Four levels, and a “+” between every block. Rows split into columns out of 12; modules go inside columns.

  1. Section

    A band of the page: contained, full width or full bleed, with dividers and background video.

  2. Row

    “▦ Columns” offers 21 layouts; equal heights and reversed order on mobile.

  3. Column

    A width out of 12 and a vertical alignment.

  4. Module

    Title, image, gallery… The Container module nests modules in a row or a column.

The + New window
+ New: a site page (a draft until its first publish) or a mega menu panel.

Add

Hover between two blocks and click “+”. Search the picker by name or by what a module does.

Move

Drag modules onto a “+” line or an empty column. Sections and rows move with ↑ ↓ or in Layers.

Write in place

Click any text on the canvas and type. Every block has Settings, Duplicate, Save to the library and Delete.

// 04 — Module settings

Five zones, every detail

Select a module and click Settings. The panel has a search box and a rail of zones — only the ones that apply appear.

Content — what it says
The module’s own fields: texts, images, links, icons, lists. Quick styles apply a ready-made look in one click, and the Dynamic tags drawer fills fields from the post.
Block — the container
Background (gradient, image, slideshow, pattern, grain), spacing, border, shadow, size, filters, transform, position — and the whole block as a link.
Parts — each piece on its own
Style the title, the image, the button… separately. Hover a part and it is outlined on the canvas.
Motion — how it enters and reacts
Entrance animations (fade, move, zoom, flip, curtains…) with duration and delay, plus parallax, blur, opacity, 3D tilt and follow-the-mouse on scroll.
Rules — when it shows
Hide per device, show between two dates, only for signed-in visitors or depending on the cart; its name in Layers, a CSS ID and classes.
The settings panel
The Title module on its Content zone.
The Parts zone
Parts: every piece has its own typography, background, border and shadow.

Tablet, mobile and hover

Style each screen

Three device icons pick the screen you are styling — the canvas follows — and ✦ hover styles the state under the mouse. Empty values are inherited: tablet from desktop, mobile from tablet.

  • Copy the style · Paste the copied style
  • Extend this style to the column, row, section or page
  • Done keeps the changes; Esc discards them

// 05 — Global elements

Made once, used everywhere

Global, in the top bar, gathers what shows on many pages at once. Publishing one of them changes it across the whole site.

Header and footer

Painted around every page. Any page can switch them off from ☰ → Around this page.

Sidebars

Left and right bars, overlaid or fixed and collapsible, with a tab on the edge.

Global templates

One design for every blog listing and single post — and, with WooCommerce, the shop pages.

The Global window
Global: zones of the site and global templates.

Dynamic content

Tags the site fills in

Write a tag in any text field and the site fills it in when the page is served. Add | and a fallback for when there is nothing.

// 06 — Templates and themes

Start from something beautiful

The Library holds page templates, five complete themes, and everything you save yourself.

The Library
Page templates by Sell, Brand and content, Contact and Service pages, with a style filter.

Page templates

Two clicks to apply (the first confirms). They replace the canvas without publishing; Ctrl+Z undoes it.

Five themes

Aura, Obsidian, Sage, Amber and Nacre: seven matching pages each. Applying one publishes all seven.

Your library

Save any block or page. Saved modules show in Add module → My modules; sections and pages in My blocks and My pages.

Filter by style

Style, Palette, Industry and Traits. Tags in one group add up; different groups narrow down.

Section templates

Covers, content, store, reassurance, contact and closing, header and footer — from the “+” between sections.

The live demos

Showcase, Vektor and Mochi are templates too, with tinted placeholders ready for your pictures.

// 07 — Floating layer and publishing

From draft to live, safely

Pop-ups and fixed buttons live in their own layer, and every publish keeps the previous version.

Floating elements

Things that float over the page

Pop-ups, the age gate, dot navigation, reading progress, back to top and WhatsApp buttons. Add them from the floating elements button; show, hide or delete several at once.

Floating elements

Publishing

The life of a change

Draft

Every change is kept as a draft 15 seconds later.

Check

Preview

The unpublished draft, full size, on the real site.

Live

Publish changes

“Fired: 43 KB, no extra requests. It is live on the site.”

Undo

History of versions

The last 20 publishes, with names. Put any back on the canvas.

// 08 — Import and export

Move a whole site in one file

Every document, zone, rule and image travels in one .zip — and one Import button recognises what you give it.

Export this page

Only the design (.json) or a .zip with the images it uses; optionally with the site header and footer, which ask before replacing anything.

Export the whole site

Only the design, or with images.

Import

A template replaces the canvas; a theme or a site is published.

Nothing half-done

Whatever could not come in is listed, grouped by reason.

Export the whole site
With images, the pictures are uploaded to the new site and every address is rewritten.

// 09 — Power tools

See the whole tree

Layers, find and replace, an accessibility check and the Marfilo screens in wp-admin.

The Layers panel
Layers: select, hide, move, duplicate or delete anything.

Checks

Catch problems early

  • Find and replace across the whole page, with Match case
  • Accessibility check: skipped heading levels, images without a description, buttons without text, low contrast
  • Click a finding and the module is selected
  • Diagnostics in wp-admin logs what went wrong

Where things show

Which header, footer, sidebar and templates apply where.

Settings

Safety net, Google Fonts, modules in the picker, device widths, language.

Messages

What visitors sent through your forms, as a list or a CSV.

Checkout fields

With WooCommerce: reorder, rename, require or hide checkout fields.

// 10 — Questions

Asked before you

The short answers. For anything else, the support forum.

Do I need to know how to code?
No. Everything is done by dragging modules and filling in fields. The Code and HTML modules are there for people who want them.
Does it work with my theme?
Yes. A page can sit inside your theme, with its header and footer, or take over the whole screen. You choose per page in the Marfilo box.
What happens to my pages if I remove the plugin?
Turn on the safety net in Settings and each design’s text, images and links are copied into the page’s own content. Nothing is lost.
Why is “View on the site” greyed out?
Because there are unpublished changes. Publish first, or use Preview to see the draft.
Is everything really free?
Yes. All 100+ modules ship with the plugin, with no licence keys or locked features.
